About
I pass these red lights almost daily, ever since they were installed alongside the completion of the Energy Centre, Blyth. These two bold red lines, marking the entrance and exit of the car park, commanded my attention. Each time I saw them, I imagined how I could bring them to life—make them dance. This idea became the foundation of the project: a way of "blooming" movement from a single photograph. That one image became the seed from which the entire composition grew. I began with stop-frame animation and gradually expanded into a variety of styles, creating dynamic 3- and 5-second sequences. These diverse fragments were then stitched together to form a cohesive, flowing composition. To complete the work, Skin Vehicles, composed an original piece of music to accompany and enhance the "dance" of the red lights. This piece forms part of the Blythian Memes series, an ongoing exploration of place, movement, and imagination. Once the film is completed, the film is not the end. The film is now, a source of new material. The film is examined frame by frame, once an interesting composition is found it is extracted and reworked to create new digital artwork.
