Scheffer's artistic creation, ALTER EGOS, was derived from a "selfie," a contemporary form of self-portraiture facilitated by smartphones. This initial concept was then presented to the artificial intelligence as a point of departure. The text prompts provide the direction for the AI's hallucination, and Scheffer combines the images into a moving image. The viewer's mind interprets facial expressions and illusory lip movements, which are not part of the AI process; the viewer is the author of these interpretations.

The work addresses themes such as identity and self-portrayal in the digital age of artificial intelligence, employing a humorous approach to tackle these subjects.
