About

Can the relationships and processes created by those who share similar pain become art? Can a video recording the time and actions of four performers/practitioners capture it? And when this is staged publicly, can people not only empathize with the performers’ hearts but also share their yearning for new ways of living and for another world? This work begins with these questions. *Practice of Living* is both the title of the solo show and performance, and a two-channel video documenting the process. One channel follows the creation of new relationships, the other the making of a communal ritual—facing each other, illuminating moments of practice. Recording such processes on video can never be complete. To show them to others will inevitably fail. Yet the experiences and attitudes that the performers/practitioners have carried through time still remain. I see them clearly in their faces.
