In this painting, I have imbued significance to connection. Faint or bold, the lines, curves, and wide stripes of colors act as conduits, not only connecting the shapes on the canvas but also extending their reach into the vast unknown that lies beyond the frame. The connection doesn't necessarily have to be seen. Some shapes and lines in the painting echo each other conceptually, or in terms of spirit, with a rhythm of continuity. This creates an overall composition of interconnected fragments. This is also how I understood the situation of my hometown and how to position it in the world when I was young, a visual account of the port development in Hong Kong. A 1975 map is chosen because it was during this period that Kwai Tsing Container Terminals replaced Tsim Sha Tsui as Hong Kong’s logistics hub for international trade. Because of this, I bended the timeline of the narration by connecting the two logistics hubs at different times into one abstraction. This is a new way of seeing history too.
