PADO is a fictional short film inspired by Werner Herzog’s Family Romance, LLC, which was previously available on MUBI. The project originates from Herzog’s on-screen introduction on the streaming platform—an unexpected gesture that felt less like a preface and more like an essential part of the film. PADO extends this idea by transforming the introduction into the film itself.

In PADO, Shingo Yamano performs as the director, standing in for the artist, and delivers an opening address that never leads to a film. Instead, the introduction becomes the work. Drawing loosely from a brief outline, Yamano improvises much of the narrative, blurring authorship, intention, and truth, and questioning where a film begins and who gets to speak for it.
