Title: Ep.9 Reality Sandwich: It is Heaven that I seek Production Year: 2025 Runtime: 13:27 Director: Ho Bin Kim Starring: Mr.Tongue Music: Kimchi Cowboys Synopsis Reality Sandwich is an ongoing, place-responsive, subaltern video series that unfolds through performative encounters with artists across diverse geographies. Inspired by absurdist gestures and relational practices, each episode begins with a single question—“What does a Reality Sandwich mean to you?”—and evolves through unscripted, daylong collaborations with local practitioners. Filmed in cities such as New York, Gwangju, Shanghai, Bacolod, Seoul, Rotterdam, Jogja, Kawasaki, and Riyadh the series resists conventional documentary structure, favoring instead a poetics of slowness, improvisation, and affective entanglement. While wandering the streets of Pocheon, Ho Bin Kim encounters a large graffiti letter “R” on a wall and meets the masked street artist known as Mr. Tongue. Curious, Ho Bin asks if the letter is indeed an “R,” and whether Mr. Tongue knows about Reality Sandwich. The artist replies no—but agrees to grab lunch. Over a shared meal, a conversation unfolds that leads Mr. Tongue back to the wall, where he begins painting his signature tongue symbol beside the “R.” Through this spontaneous collaboration, Mr. Tongue shares his recent spiritual vision—as a believer of Christ—of a divine message urging him to seek deeper meaning. For him, Reality Sandwich becomes the in-between space: not quite heaven, not quite hell, but the charged moment of choice suspended between the two.
