Untitled (for Pierre Boulez)

The origin of the piece is conceptual. Initially I was attempting something similar the Erased De Kooning by Robert Rauschenberg, only applied to sound; I took all of my recordings of the music of Pierre Boulez and erased the parts that went beyond the ppp dynamic range. In the process of layering the recordings I became interested in the way the remaining fragments interacted with one another and left all conceptual considerations behind and focused on creating a piece of music. The result, even though it features primarily the patchwork made of snippets of his work, takes on a meditative quality that's mostly absent in his music.
