Intra-action aims to explore the relationship between spectators’ temporal locations and decisions with the system’s agency as well as methods of utilizing movements, trajectories, locations, and forces in spatiotemporal development of responsive audiovisual environments. It consists of a boid system that reacts to the position of participants as well as its own internal rules. Each agent’s position data control parameters of real-time synthesis blocks. The user controls the composition by interacting with the agents and moving in the space. The resulting soundscape represents the system’s state in encounter with the participant. Participants can interact with the agents, and alter the audiovisual environment by walking towards the center of the space and changing their positions through time. Different motions, speeds, and paths will result in different agents’ behaviors and soundscapes. Intra-action is a single-user installation. It was a collaboration with sound artist Farzaneh Nouri amd was presented at West Den Haag.
