About

Nuovo sintetico is a video made in direct animation on super 8 film. Using a Super 8 film in which a film, I due toreri (1965) by Franco and Ciccio, had already been recorded, I modified the chronology of events by breaking up and splicing together different pieces of the original film. Once spliced together, the pieces of film are reassembled arbitrarily, broken down and without the plot and meaning they originally had. It is a new product, a new story. Once the recomposed film was obtained, I intervened on the individual frames with a dry point, etching the emulsion and drawing lines, geometric shapes, dots. In 35 mm and 16 mm films it is also possible to draw the sound directly on the film by etching the magnetic strip. By engraving certain marks, formed and aligned according to specific criteria, a true sound track can be formed. In order to create synthetic sound (McLaren N. in Berchicci V., 2012), the basic rules are few but strict, namely: two engraved dots per frame correspond to a low pitch note; seven lines per frame correspond to a medium pitch note; thirty lines per frame to a high pitch note Reeves R.R. 1991).
