About

The work is realised using datasets acquired from a residency held at Villa Rospigliosi in Prato. The interior and exterior spaces of the villa were used as a sort of database where various types of data could be retrieved. Stendardo was structured semi-automatically, using data automatic, using temperature data, thanks to an interpolation between heatmap graphs and generative algorithms. The image generated through this process was then realised entirely by hand, using 9,936 glass tiles installed on a rubber backing. The idea is to use data as building blocks for a new language, where technology and mathematics coexist through ancient mediums and techniques. In this scenario, materials and approaches linked to artistic tradition are rethought and readapted to modern needs, while keeping their imagery. The use of visual elements imported from data visualisation, such as heatmaps, find new light precisely because they are placed in a different context, thus creating new paths and highlighting experimental communication methods and structures. This hybrid mosaic creates an unprecedented reading of the examined environment, somewhere between between a psychogeographic map, the Nazca lines and the thermal camera image of a a combat drone, generating a unique and timeless element.
