NOÉMI BÜCHI - DESIRING THE DESIRE - VIDEO by BRIGITTE FÄSSLER. Swiss film director and artist Brigitte Fässler presents a study of movement and materiality for Noémi Büchi’s newest album ‘Does It Still Matter’ (-OUS; May 24, 2024). At a time when categories are melting away and musical forms are being redefined, Noémi Büchi's music video for ‘Desiring The Desire’ manifests itself as a sensual reflection on materiality and the ephemerality of being. The video is an interplay of blurriness and clarity, of stillness and movement, an expression of the ‘uncategorisable' that transcends genre boundaries and at the same time reveals a profound inner world. «Every gesture, every captured gaze seizes the paradox of existence - the simultaneous presence and absence, the here and now as well as the both/and.», Fässler explains. Serving as a visual expansion of Büchi's musical world, the video forces the viewer to surrender to the flow of the moment, in which each frame is a work of art in its own right, characterised by the maxim of avant-gardism that Büchi follows so passionately. There is no clear narrative structure, but rather an assemblage of snapshots that invites the viewer to embrace the ephemeral while re-evaluating the meaning of sound and time. What does desire matter? Fässler and Büchi leave us with a sonorous meditation that is as fleeting as it is enduring.
