Created for the group exhibition, Surface Matters. Ex-Libris Gallery, Newcastle University, UK "Lucas Glenn’s practice is one of repurpose— fashioning found material to speculate utopian and dystopian spaces for posthuman kinship and trouble. Alien (Echelon), like many of his works, is a space of ecological connection and dissonance. Alien pairs distorted audio with footage from a live golf course webcam near Glenn's studio. Surreal night-time footage, along with the activity of a solitary labourer and the lights of grooming equipment, imposes an extraterrestrial texture on a familiar space. This imposition echoes the absurdity of a private, manicured terrain imposed across a vast landscape."
