Encrypted_Bodies

The project, that took the form of a multi-screen video installation, was initially inspired by William Burroughs‘s  phrase “Language is a virus from outer space”. In this context, I focus on the arbitrariness and “alienness” of language that constructs to a large extent the way we perceive our bodies and selves as distinct entities. 

In our post-modern universe of media hyper-activity, massively spread fake news and data warfare, the “viral” aspect becomes even more relevant. Resonating with J. Baudrillard’s analysis in the “Transparency of Evil”, the work also becomes a study on  proliferation, chaotic behaviour, dispersion and fragmentation, phenomena that ,according to the writer, characterise every aspect of our contemporary world: the political, the economic, the aesthetic etc. 

Burroughs‘s  idea of a foreign element invading organisms in all their physicality, in contrast with Baudrillard’s commentary on the contemporary body as a de-materialised informational construct or “operational unit” shape the  visual vocabulary of the work in constant juxtaposition.

The soundscape was composed by electronic musician MPanalog.
