About

Mudskipper is an amphibious fish that spends much of its life outside the water, walking on the ground of muddy waters with the help of its pectoral fins. In the performance, Profitis wanders around during the finissage of the group show, embodying a mythical or mutant creature that could be found in an eerie lake, while the exhibitional space and works become part of this paradoxical landscape. Hidden speakers played Schubert’s composition Auf dem See (On the Lake) poem written by Goethe.  For the needs of the project, the artist built a ceramic mask with moving parts borrowing elements from the animatronics logic, a technique widespread in the field of special effects, where is used to imitate or bring lifelike features to an inanimate object. The move is achieved by the pulling of the metal wires; in this case the artist Despina Charitonidi manipulated the moving/expression by pulling those wires like a puppeteer.
