About

'degelo' is an audiovisual performance on global warming, executed from an instrument created by the artist. the performance deals with the disorderly way humans have treated the planet and its consequent result - the melting of polar ice caps, causing a complete change of all ecosystems on earth. for about 30 minutes, the presentation intersperses moments of tension with others where an apparent calm is only a breath before new fractures happen again. this process is described through sounds and images in a narrative that goes from the natural situation, where glaciers occupy its space at the poles of the planet, until its complete melting. This process is presented in a tragic and intense way, demonstrated by the noisy sounds and images that symbolize the movement of the blocks falling apart and disintegrating, until only wreckage remains. the performance is executed from an instrument created by the artist, which consists of a styrofoam block with 2 contact microphones embedded. the captured sound is modulated by effects and generate intense rhythmic patterns that convey the idea of tension that permeates the entire presentation. the instrument is played tearing up parts of it until only small pieces are left. a camera captures hand movements taking pieces from the styrofoam plate, and a programing mixes short excerpts recordered along the performance making it appear that the hand playing the instrument is actually taking pieces of the actual glaciers.
