About

“Jeg er mangfoldig” is a work that explores bacteria and how they challenge the human perception of self. The film is driven by a narrative written from the bacteria's perspective, and the visuals show bacteria and fungi grown from samples of my body. These cultures are sampled from fingers, toes, ears, mouth, anus, etc. Half of the human body consists of microbes, so-called non-human organisms. Research shows that bacteria can to some extent influence what we think and feel. Old ideas from natural science and philosophy imagine humans as an independent ego-driven enteties, separate from other life in nature. Bacteria challenge these ideas by showing us that we are not individuals, but collectives inhabited by millions of organisms. There are multiple consciousnesses inhabiting one body.
