“Warp and Weft” is a generative artwork that explores the intersection of art and data. While not a direct data visualization, it takes inspiration from recorded glacier balance data collected over decades. This data acts as the raw material, informing the artwork’s structure and movement. The title references the intricate weaving patterns found in traditional Iranian Termeh fabrics. Similar to the warp and weft threads that create Termeh’s beauty, the data serves as the foundation upon which the artwork is built. The movements within the piece are a response to the data’s fluctuations, while the color palette highlights anomalies within the dataset. This artwork extends beyond the physical piece itself. 1200 unique frames from “Warp and Weft” are used to create NFT artworks attached to tickets for the MUTEK.AE festival. By connecting art, data, and technology, “Warp and Weft” fosters a dialogue about environmental change and artistic expression in the digital age.
