About
The classic allegory of Plato’s Cave describes people who have lived chained to the wall of a cave immersed themselves in the simulation of flicker lights. A roughly made virtual cave made people think of immersive audio visual spaces and helplessly indulge into the metaverse, even it is far from real. Cave Automatic Virtual Environment, a famous example of technology art in the 90s, which constructed an immersive audiovisual environment by high performance computing, was directly named after Plato’s Cave. When staying in the developing process of experimentation, artists are aware of the limitation of technology art on one hand, but marvel at the innovative vision on the other hand. When being like Sisyphus, moving and chasing by the same stone every day, we wonder if there is a way for artists to escape from their own caves? As an immersive A/V exhibition of T.A.P Project for 2022 NTT-TIFA, RE: CAVE revisits the meaning of cave, computing, and immersive art by inviting worldwide generative artists to create performances inspired by the marvelous cave-like spaces of NTT.
