About

Retreat is visual and sensory journey into the heart of the climate crisis, told through the metamorphosis of the Brenva glacier, one of the most imposing formations of Mont Blanc. For over a century, the glacier has experienced a dramatic retreat, losing 300 metres in thickness, with 200 metres disappearing in just the past twenty years— an accelerated pace that starkly reflects the irreversible impact of global warming. This phenomenon now affects glaciers worldwide, surpassing the point of no return and destabilising the delicate balance of our ecosystem. The installation utilizes 32 sustainably constructed monitors arranged vertically to mirror the glacier’s grandeur, guiding the viewer downward through a fluid transformation from solid snow and ice into flowing, living water in a continuous, unbroken cascade. Projected in an infinite loop, the video never ceases, symbolizing the enduring power of water, one of Earth’s primal and untamable forces. This endless cycle represents nature’s persistent memory, which regenerates and flows even in the face of the gravest adversities. The installation invites viewers to reflect on the urgent need to preserve what remains, with the hope that art might foster awareness and inspire renewed collective responsibility for the environment.
