About

I have been living in Vienna since 2018; working on a practice-based PhD around the act of protest and dissent in the Indian context. Before October 2023 my position in this country had never been as challenged as it is now. When the latest series of brutal attack against Gaza by Israel started, and which to our horror continues when I’m writing this synopsis; the political position of Austrian institutions was cutthroat: pro-Palestine protests or voices of dissent were harshly silenced as a canceling culture has been at the forefront of their agendas. The severe suppression of such protests and opinions made a lot of us wonder about our presence here and about living in Austria/Europe. It made us confront the reality of being here, living here. In this seemingly impossible situation, all I could do was to try and be part of some of these protests and shoot some of them. This piece is a result of this engagement and invitation to be part of them.
