About

Fossil Fuels. Carelessness. When did the night fall, the night after which we wake and no longer cry? No longer grieving over a fallen eyelash missed for a wish, a hat swept away by the wind, a lost button, or anything else we can no longer see? That night has yet to come. But why have we forgotten how to cry? The second part of the visual-poetic project Present-I-Meant is dedicated to the ecological issue of fossil fuel combustion and the human condition of carelessness that both results from and contributes to it. Pollutant particles released during fossil fuel burning enter the atmosphere, affecting not only air quality but also drastically altering cloud structures. Clouds retain more water droplets, reducing rainfall and contributing to droughts. Carbon dioxide emissions heat the ocean’s surface layers, disrupting currents. These mass emissions are creating an “invisible” world, where major cities like Beijing and New Delhi have even disappeared from some satellite images. Fossil fuels are not as essential to humanity as the convenience and speed with which they can be extracted. If we don’t see what is lost, could it be that we, too, are lost?
