Monuments

Standing stones are a stepping stone to spark a conversation. These monuments are a physical manifestation of continuity, but does this practice highlight a cost? We are so set on erecting stones to say we are here, protecting the past at the expense of our future. What can we change to create spaces where innovation and creativity can flourish? Or we will be left with our monuments, but no one will be there to view them.

As a Designer who grew up in Wales, leaving felt like the only choice to pursue a creative career and grow; this problem is widely known as Brain Drain. My project aims to raise awareness of this issue. As a culture, we spend so much time protecting the past that we have lost sight of the future. Cultural survival has been the mindset for so long that we need to step back and think about how we can create the space to build something both Welsh and new.
