About

~ Ephemeral Sounds of the Gulf ~ Edition 1... is a landmark compilation that is dedicated to shining light on hidden artistic waves and depth of sonic exploration happening within the GCC region and fondly a concept that I too used to aspire to realize while still curating Analog Amigo Records from Dubai. Seeing this finally happen with added ecological and DIY ethos that are perfectly executed by the Ephemera Records team led by Erika Tsuchiya feels like a humbling affirmation. ~ https://ephemerarecords.bandcamp.com/album/ephemeral-sounds-of-the-gulf-edition-1 ~ my track "magic birds and a break-in to an abandoned baqala" is one of those personal sonic narratives that I built from exploring liminal spaces in the UAE countryside during a brief respite with initially nothing but a recorder and a hotel notepad to sketch some wanted encounters then build them at home with my textured feelings as a foundation to mix the field recordings, fractured rhythms, granular manipulations, and drifting melodic fragments into a one complete composition. This particular track moves between intimacy and tension~wandering through a quiet dusty alleyway at dusk with broken glass and dried branches on the dirt floor and the echoes of the birds and of the other ordinary becomes surreal. As a recurring bit in most Sukatoyo pieces, this track blends the environment and the abstract allowing memory, atmosphere and subtle chaos to coexist in one unfolding scene ⋆✴︎˚。⋆⋆˙⟡ ~ and I thank all of you for witnessing this moment for the region's experimental music community. ~ buy the record and make ephemeral sounds become permanent imprints! ~
