The video "Dots, Lines and Zigzag" juxtaposes the reflections of Soviet film director Artavazd Peleshyan on the structure of the Universe, described by him in the book "My Universe and the Unified Field Theory" (2017), and remounted episodes of Dubna Film Studio films shot by amateur directors and employees of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. The juxtaposition of these materials happens through the Peleshyan's method of distance montage, which, while preserving gaps and inconsistencies, allows you to poetically connect different types of amateurs: scientists who are engaged in art, and a film director who has developed his own theory of physics. Thus, for the video, the central figure is an amateur who does things grounded on his/her own desire, and not the positions of expertise. Also, the outsider modality of Soviet amateur art can be considered as a possible alternative to the logic of projects salient in contemporary art institutions within which artistic production is forced to exist now.
