‘視力’: SIGHT’ started with my identity crisis in the Chinese-Thai family followed by an observation of the ‘Value system’ in Thailand. The identity crisis leads me to a confusing state in-between two things that lead me to an exploration through animation. My connection with Thai culture seems to be clearer when I came back from holiday in Japan, I notice one common thing I share with others is the perception towards ‘trash’. Why I’m so familiar with these leftovers? Eventually, the piece attempt to ask people to look back at things with the question ‘Why can something important be revalued and ignored as trash? Can these ignored be evaluated again as something important?’ using animation as a tool to re-evaluate by giving each observed objects a second chance to live and bringing ignored things into the spotlight. Studied on William Kentridge’s works and exploring animation as a reflection from his quotes are my starting point for making charcoal animation.
