About

When human beings take on the role of explorers, we can choose the attitude of a student of nature and humanity, or we can take the journey with a pedagogue's encyclopedic overconfidence in our existing knowledge and views. Close to the Sky reimagines the modern history of the central Appalachian Mountains as a musical docudrama from an alternate reality. This science-fiction version of history begins with discovery and colonization from outer space, leading to a period of energy extraction, and ecological catastrophe. However, in the aftermath there is still hope for reconnection, grounding, and the shared experience of nature.
