About

Unbuilt Dream is an immersive installation that explores the boundary between reality and imagination, between what is designed and what is never built. Inspired by the unconstructed pavilion envisioned by Maurizio Sacripanti for Expo 1970 in Osaka, the installation unfolds as a dreamlike journey through the ruins of an unrealized vision. Architectural elements, meticulously studied, drawn, and reinterpreted, dissolve and reassemble into a cosmic dust cloud—mnemonic symbols that act as portals to other dimensions. The video installation takes shape through a 16-minute projection on LED screens or video projection, accompanied by an immersive, eight-channel soundscape. Unbuilt Dream is not a reconstruction of an abandoned architectural project, but a sensory experience that invites reflection on the unexplored potential of the unbuilt, the persistence of memory, and the transformation of unrealized space as meaningfully as physical space. Notes: This work emanates from the VR experience Osaka 70, created in 2021 by John Volpato and Architect Valentina Temporin. The installation Unbuilt Dream was showcased at the immersive room of MEET Digital Culture Centre in Milan during the Innocult Festival 2022 as an extension of the Osaka 70 VR experience.
