Travelling unites people because by meeting people we also see the world with someone’s eyes not only with ours. Marco Polo books inspired a lot of people to investigate our beautiful planet. Every one creates his or her own route. I’d like to present this idea in the following artwork. I imagined how the city codes would sound if they were music. Using a guitar tablature, I translated the numbers into notes. Each city has its own unique melody. My music of numbers starts in Syktyvkar and comes back through the chain of twin cities. In total, 21 cities with its inhabitants and their conversations in the background sound in this composition. If you throw imaginary wires between these cities, you get a distance of about 99 thousand kilometers. "Sonata" from my home phone number and the numbers of my friends that are left in the memory completes the installation." How does it work? A guitar tablature is taken as the basis of the transcription of phone codes, where "0" in this case is a note of "E" and "8" is "C". Thus, each combination of numbers gives a unique melody. Almost every city has its sister city. Syktyvkar, for example, has a sister Taiyuan, Taiyuan - Saratov, Saratov - Kazan, etc. And so, in the end, after 21 cities we return back to Syktyvkar. The installation was created within the art laboratory "Information. Transformation." in the independent space of the Revolt Centre.
