About

21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Japan. 2025/12/23–2026/1/13 Duration: 7 minutes Medium: Glass tank, wire, electronic circuit boards, speakers, polyurethane foam, silicone Work Statement: An acoustic sculpture centered on a white "module of life" suspended inside a glass tank. Embedded within a blob formed from polyurethane foam and silicone are miniature speakers and circuitry; pulsating noise, AI-processed vocal fragments, and disintegrating phrases generate a thin sonic membrane between glass and air. The speaker configuration also functions as a miniaturized model of Wakasa's spatial audio installation practice. The relationship between the 3×3 grid of circuit boards in the lower register and the organic mass above loosely traces the structure of the Ryōkai Mandala (Dual Realm Mandala)—body as Garbhadhātu (Womb Realm), system as Vajradhātu (Diamond Realm)—held within a single form, reconciled and simultaneously short-circuited. This work was presented as part of SIDE CORE's solo exhibition "Living Load, Living space" at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa.
