Mythological Menagerie - Cerberus

In a series of seamlessly looping 3D animations, contemporary artist Jonathan Monaghan reimagines mythological creatures from the labors of Heracles in a surreal blend of ancient mythology and modern technology. Each animation features iconic beasts like the Ceryneian Hind, the Erymanthian Boar, the Cretan Bull, and the three-headed Cerberus adorned with surveillance cameras and elements of opulent gold. Monaghan creates a new mythical menagerie as these beings roam among environments of contemporary technology.

In "Mythological Menagerie: Cerberus", the fearsome three-headed guard dog of the underworld is turned into an striking new beast as its head is composed entirely of modern surveillance technology. In Monaghan's animation, the beast guards a deep-learning (AI) server room. Monaghan's portrayal emphasizes a mediation on the boundaries between life and the soul in the context of advancing digital technology.
