In the centre is the television tower (Fernsehturm) of Alexanderplatz, the search for a landmark of the new capital, a tribute to two masterpieces of the 20th century: the square teeming with sounds and people narrated by Alfred Döblin and the avant-garde cinema of Walter Ruttmann's Symphony of the Great City.
