About

“Added value” is a term coined by Michel Chion in his audiovisual theory. It suggests that when sound and image are combined, they generate additional meaning in the viewer’s mind. Isn’t this also related to how we perceive reality, not just film? Fragments of reality collide randomly, producing meanings that were not originally there but emerge in the minds of those who perceive them. Does sound change how you perceive the image? Where do you look within the image? What do you feel about it? If so, this is “added value”.
