About

In "A quoi rêvent ceux qui n’auraient pas le droit d’aller au ciel?" , Valentin Ranger invites the viewer to enter the interior of a body to follow the spread of a virus—in this case, HIV—and the mutations that occur in living matter. Here, the artist, whose voice guides us throughout the exploration, clearly contrasts two worlds, two possible scenarios following this contamination: the old world, very dark, which is the territory of exclusion and withdrawal; and another path, brighter, synonymous with redemption and hope, made possible by pharmaceutical innovations. Through this microscopic journey, he questions the concepts of biological identity, rejection, and integration, and reflects on the possibilities of reinvesting in social spheres through virtual avatars. This work was presented at FRAC Ile de France, Château de Rentilly (2020); La Fab, Paris (2022); Centre d’Art de Vitry sur Seine - Galerie Jean Collet (2022); and Révélations Emerige, Paris (2022).
