ÜBERBABES 2.0
Jurgen Ostarhild In 2002, Jurgen Ostarhild created ÜBERBABES, a digital portrait series composed by blending male and female facial features into hybrid, virtual identities. These pixel-based works, saved as .jpg files, were first exhibited at Galerie Jérôme de Noirmont in Paris, questioning ideals of beauty and digital authorship. In 2023, Ostarhild reimagined the series as ÜBERBABES 2.0. Using AI technology, the original still images have been transformed into animated, talking portraits. Each face recites the same line: “This digital artwork from the year 2002 by Jurgen Ostarhild was upgraded due to severe progress in technology in 2023.” By allowing the artwork to speak for itself, Ostarhild addresses the evolving nature of digital art and the legitimacy of technological updates as a form of artistic continuation. ÜBERBABES 2.0 is not a remake, but a conceptual upgrade — a commentary on time, progress, and the life span of digital creation.
