Trapped

Trapped A dot in the ocean, barely a name Drawn on the maps of someone else’s gain They came with papers, flags, and machines Dug out the heart of what this island had been Palm trees watched as the ground gave way Promises spoken, then shipped away What was taken never returned Only scars where the earth once burned We are trapped between the sea and the sky Between forgotten truths and polished lies They took the land, they took the sound Left us here on hollow ground Calling out, but the world’s gone deaf Trapped in the weight of someone else’s wealth Generations born on borrowed dust Taught to survive, but never to trust The soil remembers every cut Every silence, every broken pact Boats pass by, but they never stop Eyes look through us, then quickly drop Isolation wrapped in aid and law A distant mercy that keeps us small We were more than a resource, more than a deal More than numbers stamped in steel This island breathed before the drills Before progress learned how to kill If the ocean rises, where do we go When even the land says no History written by hands that leave While we inherit what they don’t need Children ask why the hills are gone Why the nights feel so alone How do you explain a crime so clean That it hides behind bureaucracy Still we sing, still we remain Even buried under debt and shame Our voices crack, but they endure A wounded future, still unsure We are trapped, but we are still here Holding onto what’s left of years They can’t mine the will to stand Or erase the soul of this land Hear us now, before it’s too late Before the tide seals Nauru’s fate A small island, a heavy truth Stolen time, stolen youth Trapped, but breathing, scarred but alive Still waiting for the world to look us in the eyes
