Toward the Best in Us

"Toward the Best in Us" is a short animation and visual metaphor that speaks to the individual’s journey toward their fullest potential, shaped by the practice of love. It traces the soul’s movement through the evolving forms of love: from eros - the self-centered and passionate - through philia, the love of friendship, community, and compassion, toward agape - an unconditional love that opens us to our highest nature and to communion with the Divine. The work reflects on love as a practice of becoming: one that asks us to transcend self-centeredness and grow into a more whole, conscious, and generous way of being. Through deliberate choice, individual responsibility, and the willing relinquishment of immediate gratification, it proposes that our deepest good cannot be separated from the good we create and uphold together. This short animation serves as an introduction to the next phase of an evolving body of work: a research-based investigation of love that began in 2024 as a multimedia storytelling installation. The project seeks to foster community and public dialogue around love as an agent of change - first within our individual lives and then, through the ways in which we are intrinsically connected, within the society we collectively shape.
