Tools (v005)

Vertical 4K infinite loop, 2'00" (here 6'00"), colour/silent, 2026. Tools (v005) is also a virtual sculpture that can be viewed in augmented reality. Glb, 16 MB, 3d lidar scan, 2026 'Tools (v005)' shows a 3D scan of an assembly of objects in my studio, amongst which digital storage and neolithic stone tools. The physical objects were tied together with cables and elastic bands. The collage was taken apart after scanning – the virtual copy is its only remains. 'Tools’ is an ongoing set of works that empathically visualise the continuity of human existence across time and space. It is a way for my digital practice to emphasise and participate in 'the history of things': reuniting ideas and objects across artefacts, works of art, tools and expressions that form a "visible portrait of the collective identity” – in the words of art historian George Kubler ('The Shape of Time', 1962).
