To Never Forget Again

Visual-video-poem reflecting on the ‘Years of Lead’ of the Brazilian military dictatorship in the 70s/80s and its tragic results. The video Never Forget Again intertwines videos of fragments of real-time interaction – created with a custom software I programmed in Java3D for this work – with unpublished images drawn during the ‘Years of Lead’. At that time, the images created could not be exhibited for fear of punishment. That was a dark period in Brazilian history, during which the arbitrariness and abuses of government that I experienced provoked feelings of revolt, expressed in the collages and drawings I made. I recently incorporated this material into virtual worlds. In the post-digital era, the concept of form in art expands through its association with site-specific computer art installations. With this expansion, opportunities arise to create works that respond dynamically to the public, the surrounding space-time, and the environment. In this context, technological tools enable poetic and aesthetic experimentation with computational languages, broaden the concept of installation, and allow us to revisit past moments and warn of the danger of forgetting the dictatorial acts that occurred.
