The Spa at the End of Time

The Spa at the End of Time is an audiovisual work created by training a custom AI Flux LoRa model on drawings and paintings of hot tubs that were created during the artist’s multi-year investigation into relationships between hot tubs, techno-spiritualism, the body, the night sky, and emergent media forms. ​The work is accompanied by audio voiced in the style of a medium receiving transmissions from the astral plane. This framing draws a parallel between late 19th Century spiritualists such as the artist Hilma AF Klint and contemporary ideas about working with the non-human intelligence of AI. ​In these images, the hot tub appears as an architecture, interface, and metaphysical concept that envisions a divine spa awaiting humanity in a post-embodied future.
