The Script Exchange Part 3

(Please scan the link to access the video*) Rishi's interdisciplinary practice, which encompasses but not limited to painting, performance, sculpture, and video, is a highly process-oriented practice that often focuses on associations and credibility in the urban landscape, as seen through the lens of art and its tangible object form. In The Script Exchange video work, this concept is pushed further through the use of social media as a medium. Throughout the video, the boundary between the "live" and "past documented" versions of a happening is blurred by creating a digital situational performance made out of a script of pre-recorded footage. The Royal Exchange- a trading center, a shopping mall and the center point between art and commerce in the financial sector provides a contextual backdrop in the video. Throughout this transition of a thought turning into a conclusion, the artist commodifies the video performance and instances of it in the form of sellable black and white prints. Part 1 of The Script Exchange- the “situational digital performance” was a temporary post which was removed from Instagram after a duration equivalent to its playback time. Part 2 - the main “Artwork”, further narrating the script of the artist questioning and realising things that have already been done by himself and making decisions to reach a wider audience in order to make his work more sellable through the use of Social media ads and trendy songs. The video ends with a realisation that the artworks started “becoming” even before he became consciously aware of it. Part 3- the “documented performance” begins with a slideshow of randomly clicked photographs and videos in black and white shot during the making of the entire consciously known performance and ends with a conclusion that the artwork began forming in that past unknown or the undocumented phase and transitioned into what it is now, "what led him to make this artwork or what this artwork will lead him to, is not known for now.
