The PolkaVox Notebooks - Apothegm NO 4: PERFORMANCE/ATTENTION/LIFE

Contains AI-assisted elements

The PolkaVox Notebooks is a digital conceptual art project structured as a library of short video works and aphoristic critiques (apothegms)—visual maxims that turn overlooked patterns of everyday life into reflections on contemporary human attitudes. The project began as a series of hand-drawn sketches that were later transformed into 2D and 3D colour renditions using AI tools. Through this process of experimentation, I explored how filmic techniques and emerging technologies might intersect with social commentary in the form of short, pithy statements. An ambiguous character gradually emerged—a unique voice capable of delivering these apothegms with humour and nuance. Set against today's landscape of fast-paced social media and AI video trends, PolkaVox uses the short-form format as a space for play, experimentation, philosophical inquiry, and artistic critique. In the gallery, PolkaVox is presented as an interactive listening and viewing station. The installation features a monitor, headphones, and a tactile menu controller connected to a media drive housing the complete library. Visitors navigate the work on their own terms, choosing their own sequence and moving through the collection without a prescribed narrative. Selections may include: • Apothegm No. 1: AGE / DEFIANCE / HUMOUR • Apothegm No. 2: DOUBT / CHANGE / UNFINISHED • Apothegm No. 3: AGE / DESIRE / MEMORY • Apothegm No. 4: PERFORMANCE/ATTENTION/LIFE
