The Outcast of the Universe (The Misfit Kingdom)

The Misfit Kingdom is the third trailer in The Outcast of the Universe, an ongoing series of twelve short character trailers rooted in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1835 story Wakefield and reimagined across contemporary Los Angeles. Each trailer in the series begins with a randomly generated GPS coordinate and evolves into a portrait of a person who slips out of their own life and into a new version of themselves. The project combines analog 6x7 photography, AI assisted scripting, and cinematic video sequences to explore identity, reinvention, memory, and disappearance. This third trailer draws formally from the structure and pacing of the Blade Runner 2049 trailer. The visual language is moody, atmospheric, and grounded in Los Angeles night. The camera movements, title cards, lighting cues, and score all trace the rhythm of the original trailer while generating a new narrative world for the characters in The Misfit Kingdom. Outcast of the Universe will ultimately consist of twelve location based photo and video pairings, each structured like a micro trailer from a film that does not exist. Together they create a map of projected identities across the psychogeography of Los Angeles.
