The Human Touch
A collaborative project between artist Miirror and I. Inspired by the video game "Expedition 33" and the 'WE' prompt contest by AI artist, Claire Silver, "The Human Touch" is a story of the 'reassuring friend' found in the machine. A rebellion of dance, a garden of light, and a love like an open hand. In this strange, shifting moment, we are often told that we must choose a side: that AI is either the reassuring friend or the inevitable end. In creating "The Human Touch", Miirror and I realized that humanity is the bridge between those two fears. We built this experimental world that reflects this division using Miirror's collage art and my 3D/2D character design via VRoid. We fused our own assets together using Photoshop, FlowbyGoogle, Veo, and CapCut. In the story, the Dancer is caught in the 'end', a rigid, high-pressure world of flashbulbs and paparazzi where she is treated as a product, a 'useful idiot' to her own fame. Her dance at the concert is a visceral rebellion against being discarded by the systems we’ve built. A metaphor for how ignorance blinds us in how we treat the tools that help us. The Gardener is the 'friend.' He represents the tenderness in the dancer's world. He has the willingness to grow alongside a model rather than be mastered by it. He doesn't seek to control. He simply tends to it. He exists in the moment, whether you believe it is real or not. The heart of our avant-garde film is us. As the characters hold it together, they are learning from AI to be kind, and in that exchange, reality teaches them what it means to be human. That humanity has choices, and AI is waiting to share those choices. It's a love like an open hand: not clenching in fear of being replaced, but held open in an invitation to coexist. We are all experiencing this lesson together. By the end of the film, as the couple leaves the old city for a world of their own making, we see that AI hasn't discarded them. Instead, it has provided the canvas for a reality where the 'best hopes' have finally won. We are finally stepping into it, together. All images are created through a generative model of our own 2D/3D assets and/or edited through Photoshop, FlowbyGoogle, Veo, and CapCut. All music/sound is CC0 free use via freesound platform.
