The Guest and the Host

The Guest and the Host is an artistic research project exploring the transformation of machines from passive tools into active actors. Its central element is an "electronic organism" designed to evolve its behavior through constant interaction with its environment. By liberating evolutionary algorithms from the digital realm and giving them physical form, the project depicts the often obscure and unpredictable nature of machine learning. The object is capable of perceiving light, sound, and distance while moving through physical space as an autonomous entity. It actively absorbs the soundscape, capturing fragments of it, which it processes and reorganizes. By resynthesizing these inputs into new sonic forms, the machine creates a unique form of communication, a primitive language through which it communicates with the world and signals its internal state.
