The Binding Masks(缚面)

This is an interrogation of "identity"—The Han people, in the name of Confucian ethics, rigidly defined social roles through the doctrine of "rectifying names" (zhengming), binding each individual to their ordained place to maintain cosmic order. Yet through the dialectic of "Heaven's Mandate" (tianming) and "human agency" (renwei), they simultaneously sought to transcend fate's constraints. The central tension remains: How do we balance the "mask" of social expectation with the "true self" beneath?
