Text to Nature's Voice

I created AI-generated videos that question our relationship with cutting-edge technology and explore the hope it offers, inspired by the renowned Japanese artist Hokusai. Hokusai’s works often explore the relationship between humans and nature. I echo Hokusai's reverence for the natural world by incorporating images of nature and mycelium elements. My choreography embodies the rhythms and patterns found in natural environments. This connection allows me to reflect on environmental themes, drawing parallels between the struggles depicted in Hokusai's work and contemporary ecological challenges. I filmed myself performing my choreography and generated by Runway, Gen-3 Alpha. Layers of meaning and cultural references in Hokusai's work are mirrored in my exploration of digital networks. By embedding these themes in choreography and AI-generated visuals, I create a dialogue that highlights the complexity of social issues, much like Hokusai did through his art. By combining my dance and AI elements, I craft a story that raises awareness of the ethical implications of AI, environmentalism, and warfare, much like how Hokusai conveyed powerful messages through his prints. This fusion allows for a rich dialogue between past and present, questioning how cultural legacies endure and evolve in the digital age. I guess this is what Hokusai hoped - sharing and collaborating beyond time. As I develop this project, I hope to maintain an open dialogue about themes such as the ethical implications of AI in art, the urgency of environmental issues, and the impact of digital networks on societal challenges, which will enrich my work and invite the audience to engage critically with these complexities.  This work was created as part of the AI Hokusai Art Tech Research Project.
