On March 25, 2025, ChatGPT switched to the GPT Image 1 model, presumably replacing DALL-E as the built-in image generator. The previous model had one unique capability that is now forever lost—the ability to generate images of non-sexualized nudity of women from the San (Bushmen) tribe. Gone forever, too, is the era that saw AI generation rise to its current level—a time when glitches and malfunctions became an integral part and a signature hallmark of the period.This is what our story is about. SYNTHETIC SAKURA is an experiment in interacting with ChatGPT, during which more than 14,000 prompts were made, united by a common task: to depict the heroine Sakura, a representative of the San (Bushmen) tribe, in a wide variety of plots, forms, and styles. The stylistic direction chosen was Japanese anime, and although the collection primarily adheres to this genre, it also includes other animation styles. This is an independent project created by one person, without investments, using accessible and free tools for generating content (ChatGPT), minting NFTs (Rarible), building the website (Mobirise), registering the domain (ENS), hosting (Pinata cloud), and managing social networks such as Discord, Reddit, and X. This collection is intended for an adult audience (18+) due to the presence of nude natural figures and symbolic human forms. It is presented as a form of speculative visual storytelling and should not be interpreted as a literal depiction of any real person, ethnic group, or belief. Despite all efforts to approach the subject with care and respect, I acknowledge the subjective nature of art and disclaim responsibility for any unintentional offense or misinterpretation. The collection represents an artistic exploration of natural beauty, post-human imagination, and symbolic cultural elements. It draws on the aesthetic traditions of real indigenous peoples who historically viewed nudity as a natural and non-sexual state. All images were created in compliance with OpenAI's terms and content policies and did not trigger any violations or restrictions at the time of creation.
