Stamps of the digital skin

"Stamps of the digital skin" is the result of a research process around Blockchain technology and the emergence of de-centralised autonomous communities (DAOs). It was developed in the framework of the Crypto Residency-Blockchain Fieldwork programme, organised by Taipei Treasure Hill Artist Village (https://www.artistvillage.org/news-detail.php?p=4750&tags=&q=). The project started from the idea of imagining web 3.0 as a digital skin shared by all internet users, a collective skin on which we have begun to "stamp" a new visual imaginary. The proposal was generated in dialogue with the exhibition project "Generative Taipei On-Site" by Volume DAO, especially with the section called "Interpretation", in which the artists Yi-Wen and Nineteen propose an interesting relation between generative art and Miao embroidery, artefacts from a non-digital era. "Stamps of the digital skin" proposes to explore the relationships that may exist between the ceramic stamps of the native peoples of Ecuador, generative art and blockchain technology; reinterpreting the "ways of doing" of the past in an attempt to rethink our present. Cylindrical ceramic seals were made in abundance by the natives of the Latin American continent before the period of colonisation. The use to which these objects were put is still unknown, as much of the indigenous memory of Latin America was lost during the colonisation process. It is also not known on what materials they were stamped, but it is believed that they were used to stamp images on the body. The main objective of the project was to reflect on the possible relationships between this type of stamps, whose meaning or sense has been lost or erased, blockchain technology and web 3.0, which formulate the creation of a shared interplanetary archive system, which could preserve our collective memory online and without it ceasing to be ours.
