Seismoglyph (Mitosis version)

"Seismoglyph" is a collaborative work with artist and musician Stuart Hyatt. Stuart worked with seismologists in Alaska to receive field recordings from seismic monitoring stations around the state, which were then transposed into an audible range, revealing the sound of seismic activity. Stuart edited and processed those sounds and then artist Blake Marques Carrington used them as raw materials to create this visual artwork. The visuals layer a scientific spectrographic visualization with shifting geometric forms, inspired by tectonic plates, experimental architect Lebbeus Woods’ drawings for “Einstein’s Tomb”, and an ambiguous invented glyph language. If Earth was trying to speak to us, its seismic activity could be like encrypted speech, waiting for us to decode it.
