Red Mountains

Red Mountains is a RISO animation that explores the transcendence between digital and physical mediums. It was initially created through programming a 3D shader coded in GLSL. Essentially, it is an entirely digital creation, living inside the computer, and in this case, inside the browser. Then this interactive being is photographed and edited with the objective of printing it in RISO. It is separated into two colors and divided into 48 frames for a future animation. This process explores how something digital can pass through something physical, gaining shape and texture, and back into a digital animation. It is created in the computer, it is processed in a living Riso machine, and it ends its physicality in the scanner, demonstrating all the quirks, idiosyncrasies, and imperfections of these three stages. The inspiration for the creation of the shader itself was early computer and net.art creations of digital environments and the 90s/00s net phase of self-authorized creation of art, utilizing the internet as a platform and medium.
